Penny Walker

Robert (Bobba Cass) Bennett has indicated that he will be holding a small event in memory of the late Penny Walker in Onslow Park on Thursday 22 December 2022 at 2.30pm.

The event will take place around the tree planted for her in Onslow Park. He is asking other friends of Penny if they would like to join in. It will be a very simple honouring with a bit of song, a bit of poetry and maybe hands and arms held in a circle, and some little ornaments hung on the tree.

Robert intends to let all the houses around the park know about this in advance with a leaflet, and have some special tree biscuits for any children who might be there playing on the afternoon. The time is chosen because of the turning of the year. He will ensure that any ornaments are removed that remain early in the new year.

Ambrose Musiyiwa will be donating to us a few copies of Poetry and Settled Status for All: An Anthology (CivicLeicester, 2022) which is dedicated to “all who have left the place they were born in to find home elsewhere, to those who support them and to peace and community activist extraordinaire Penny Walker (1950-2021).”

Please give your support to those taking part.
